Biography
Formed just over 6 years ago, Kickstart have become one of the most popular covers bands in south-east Queensland and play regularly in the better clubs and pubs as well as major outdoor and corporate events. Kickstart are Phil on lead and backing vocals, Chris on lead and backing vocals and keyboards, Hugh on guitar and backing vocals, Bill on bass and backing vocals, and Danny on drums and backing vocals.
Although, like many other cover bands, we play the classic rock songs from the 70s onwards, the sound we produce is what sets us apart … we aim for our covers to sound as authentic and close to the original as possible … so we don’t use any backing tracks and you will only see us performing as a full 5-piece band.
Our mix of strong male and female vocals and combination of guitar and keyboards enables us to play a wide range of the classic dance rock that people of all ages like to hear. We like to make sure the audience has had a great time and Phil is a master at getting the crowd involved. We’re pretty sure we’re getting it right by the many comments we receive at the end of our gigs when people say how much they enjoyed the range of songs we play and hearing them played in a way they haven’t heard in years.
We use only the best sound equipment and always have sound crew to run the mix when playing in bigger venues to ensure we create that full punchy signature sound out of the PA that our audiences really enjoy.
Classic rock is our focus and this includes current numbers that we feel will stand the test of time. Our song list is continually being updated but ranges from artists such as The Screaming Jets, Men At Work, Jimmy Barnes and the Choirboys through to Eskimo Joe, Stevie Wonder, Foo Fighters, Robbie Williams, Fleetwood Mac and Bryan Adams.
As well as the better clubs and pubs around south-east Queensland, Kickstart have played at a range of major outdoor and corporate events including pre-match entertainment for the Bronco’s 20th Anniversary game at Suncorp Stadium (see the Multimedia page), Riverfire 2005, 2006 and 2008, Indy Volunteer’s After Party 2006, Moreton Bay Seafood Festival 2007, and have been support band twice for the legendary Joe Camilleri and The Black Sorrows and have also supported legendary Kiwi band Dragon.
