Coolum Beach Bowls Club

January 30, 2010

Coolum Beach Rocks! - sounds like a nice little fishing spot doesn’t it? And it probably is too although the ‘Rocks’ bit we’re talking about is the great little crowd that always seem to turn up at the Bowls Club on a Friday night whenever the band plays - and we’re not talking people in pristine white uniforms with carefully ironed creases wearing funny hats either, no siree we’re talking rock punters who know their stuff as far as hard-drinkin’ and getting on the ‘floor’ to some great Classic Rock is concerned. Thanks to all for a great night and Wendy if you’re reading this please keep these gigs coming at regular intervals :)

Kickstart’s Great Aussie Tribute - Just Enough To Wet the Appetite

January 13, 2010

That’s right folks, we at Kickstart love Aussie Rock particularly Aussie Pub Rock but we also know that most people (ourselves included) don’t want it coming at them all night long, particularly when there’s all that fantastic music out there coming from the home of MP sex scandals and of course the good old US of A. So to that end Kickstart only usually plays a set of the Aussie stuff (about 40-50mins), just enough to wet the appetite and then it’s back into the likes of Free, Deep Purple, Lynard Skynard, John Mellancamp, etc. etc. The good thing about Kickstart’s great Oz Tribute is that it costs absolutely nothing to see … yep you heard right .. nix, zero, nothing from the wallet or purse whatsoever, it’s just part of our normal show at your favourite club. Something to consider maybe the next time you’re thinking of shelving out $20, $30 of your hard-earned to see a ”full night’s” tribute show. Kickstart’s Great Aussie Tribute - the original and still the best!

Last Shout at the Stockman’s Bar “Ekka 2009″

September 8, 2009

You know the Ekka’s back in town when people wear hats the size that if caught in a brief shower of rain the runoff from them could fill your average sized swimming pool in about 10 minutes. Some are so big that they create a sort of ‘nuclear winter’ effect on areas of the Earth that fall under their massive shade. At night time and particularly in the Stockman’s Bar at the Brissie Show they become a must have and wear fashion item for both the genuine boys from the bush and the pretenders from the big smoke. The closest most of these urban cowboys have been to the bush is watching repeat episodes of the Farmer Wants a Missus on cable. Even the band got into a bit of pretending with the hat wearing thing although there is some form there with vocalist/keyboardist Chris being an accomplished horse rider … we’ve never actually seen her ride a hayburner but she does have a large collection of whips and spurs which we assume is used for that purpose.

The gigs themselves were great and a heap of fun particularly the first Friday night which from all reports was the biggest night in living memory anyone could remember happening at the Stockman’s … well at least for several years anyway. We also had front row seats to the nightly big bang theory so what more could you want. Thanks to the soundies from Norwest for doing such a great job.

Kickstart’s Aussie Tribute - a Guaranteed Recession Buster!

March 24, 2009

A great many people when asked what do they see flying high above Parliament House in our Nation’s Capital have been known to answer - “pigeons?”  We in Kickstart know very well that it’s the mighty Australian flag and just to show how proud we all are of it and what it represents have put together a fantastic Aussie rock tribute package featuring some of the greatest bands ever to rock the land under the Southern Cross.

The Oz tribute set is about an hour or so in length and is accompanied by some stunning visuals which will make you absolutely long for the days of ‘football, meat pies, kangaroos and shaggin’ wagons. Some of the iconic bands from the vintage Oz Rock era of the 70s through to the early 90s which are covered in the set include - Men At Work, Cold Chisel, Aussie Crawl, Midnight Oil, Goanna, Inxs, the Choirboys, the Divinyls as well as individuals like Rick Springfield and Barnsey to name but a few.

The tribute set will be commencing in July at selected venues so make sure you check out the ‘gig guide’ on the website to see when and where it’s on. As well as the fantastic music and visuals the band also has some fabulously fantastic giveaways to hand out during the set.

KICKSTART - Rock from the 70s to the present and now featuring an all Aussie Rock Tribute set.

Breathing Fire at Twin Towns

October 24, 2008

Who’s that bunch of guys surrounding legendary Kickstart keyboard player Chris C? … yep, you guessed right, it’s mighty Kiwi rockers Dragon (also legendary). Kickstart were the support act for what proved to be a sensational performance by the Kiwi/Oz legends at Twin Towns Services Club on Thursday 23rd October 2008.

Definitely No Sorrow at Twin Towns

September 24, 2007

Wow! What a fantastic five nights the band had at Twin Towns Services Club at Tweed Heads. This magnificent club which was built back in the seventies and eighties essentially through the kind donations of thousands of Queensland punters (the pokie variety) is truly a fantastic venue. The first two nights (Wednesday and Thursday) were fairly laid back although the punters got into the music right from the first set and didn’t stop until the last. Friday night was an absolute kicker with the band supporting Joe Camilleri and the Black Sorrows (a definite case of deja vu). Joe was so suitably impressed with the band that he passed a message on to management to pass on to the band that he was suitably impressed. Thanks Joe, and you guys weren’t too bad either! After the highs of Friday night everyone thought Saturday night would be fairly quiet … no siree bob with the crowd again kicking-in right from the first set and refusing to believe at the end of the night that they did in fact have homes to go to. Sunday night came and we were told by a very reliable source that it would be a low key type night and in fact we might even finish early - no way was that ever going to happen with the crowd playing up a treat and then calling for more at the end. We would have done an encore or two but after 5 nights and roughly 15 hours of playing music we thought it time to bring down the curtain on a great week. A special thanks goes out to Craig the resident soundie at Twinnies who looked after us a treat. Hopefully the band will be back there again real soon.
